The nationwide program, Hiring Our Heroes (HOH), supports Veterans and military service members transitioning into civilian life to start a new career. RingCentral is proud to partner with Hiring Our Heroes and welcome Veterans and military members into the RingCentral community to help shape the future of cloud-based communications. 

Our Heroes

In honor of Veterans Day (November 11), we sat down with three members of the military to learn about their experience in the Hiring Our Heroes Program and working at RingCentral.

Meet Brandon Hewett, Trevin Murray, and Dharm Joshi.

• Brandon Hewett, a soldier for 22 years and counting, is currently a Sergeant First Class (E-7) serving as an Electronics Maintenance Chief (94W) in the U.S. Army and a Global Enterprise Engineer at RingCentral.
• Trevin Murray is a Lieutenant Colonel (O-5) and has been in the U.S. Air Force for approximately 29 years. He is currently serving as a Cyber Operations Officer (17D) in the U.S. Air Force and as a Program Director for Cybersecurity at RingCentral.
• Dharm Joshi, a Specialist (E-4) who’s been serving for the past four years as an Automated Logistical Specialist (92A) in the U.S. Army, is with RingCentral as a Product Manager.

Transitioning from the Military to RingCentral

We asked Brandon, Trevin, and Dharm about their experience joining RingCentral as active service members. Here’s what they had to say. 

Brandon Hewett

“Some of us are still active duty so we’re in that transition phase, but I will say that without the ‘Hiring Our Heroes’ program at RingCentral, I would be a bit lost. Many military members worry about transitioning into civilian life; finding job opportunities and the kind of camaraderie we’re accustomed to in the military.”

Hiring Our Heroes helps to ease those concerns by connecting service members to job opportunities and, perhaps most importantly, a network of support.  

“When I interviewed with RingCentral, it opened up an opportunity for me. I’m very happy to be here – I’m excited about RingCentral! I’ve enjoyed the training, interactions with other employees and everything! I really like the atmosphere and the people I’ve worked with.”

Trevin Murray

“In my time at RingCentral, everyone has been very supportive and helpful: the culture is awesome. As a cloud-based company, we have customers all over the world and I’m excited to be here.”

Trevin went on to give a special shout out to his manager, Kelly Malone, the Senior Director of Application Security, and shared that she has been both very ‘supportive and understanding’ throughout his transition at RingCentral. 

Dharm also shared what our culture has meant to him:

“I’ve enjoyed working in the military where I’ve traveled and learned a lot and I think the RingCentral culture is the very best I’ve ever seen in my life. Everyone is so nice.”

Feeling Welcomed at RingCentral

Being in a community and building camaraderie is part of the military experience. That’s why finding a tight-knit and supportive workplace environment is so important for our service members.

Trevin Murray

“I’ve served in the military for over 20 years and am very familiar with military life and  know what to expect. But I had no idea what it would be like to transition into the civilian sector. HOH has opened many doors for many people. I remember when Abby and Tasia held an information session for transitioning service members, Tasia said something that really resonated with me. She said, ‘you belong here.’

RingCentral tries their best to make every employee feel that they’re part of the team — because we actually do belong here.”

Trevin goes on to explain some of the benefits of HOH. 

“HOH has an awesome mentorship program, where we are provided with a mentor to help us transition. During my first week, I was assigned a mentor who happened to be prior military. It was great to be able to rely on him for support and to answer my questions. 

Veterans and Military Members bring a lot of Talent to the Table

Hiring Veterans is beneficial for everyone. Sure, RingCentral is committed to supporting military service members to make their transition successful but it’s a two way street. Veterans bring diverse skill sets, a great work ethic, and unique abilities that benefit us as well.

“Companies can definitely benefit from the values that we can bring to the table from our military service. After 23 years of service I’m really glad that companies will give us the opportunity to show what we can do for them.”

Trevin Murray

“We have a lot of management and leadership experience. Not only that, we get it; We understand the big picture. We understand how organizations work. We understand that the bottom line is the mission.

Trevin went on to share, “We have a strong work ethic and loyalty to the organization. I think that companies recognize that and they will go to the end of the earth and do everything within their powers to retain us.”

The Bottom Line

Trevin Murray
