It flies the same as commercial and passenger airlines fly. Air shipping is more expensive than sea shipping but due to its fast service and high safety, it is preferred by many people.
There are two kinds of air freights or cargo:
- General Cargo:
The type of shipment by which you can transport different types of goods such as jewelry, electronic goods, food items, pharmaceuticals, etc.
- Special Cargo:
This type of air transportation is allowed on the basis of some special conditions such as temperature control and the type of goods that are transported etc.
Ocean Freights:
It is the method of transporting a large number of goods internationally by sea routes. More than 90% of transportation is carried out by the sea. Generally, those shipments that weigh more than a certain amount of kgs or if they contain multiple cartons are preferred to be transported by sea freights. The restrictions can vary from country to country. The goods are transported through ships and there are different shipping available for different goods. One of the most popular type is container shipping in which goods are carried in containers ranging from 20 to 40 feet. There are two types of ocean freight services:
- Low Container Load (LCL):
The type of container shipment in which the containers are not filled fully and there are empty spaces remaining in containers. So you can share the container with goods that belong to others in order to reduce the cost. The drawback of this service is that your goods may get exchanged or misplaced and are vulnerable to mishandling during the voyage.
- Full Container Load (FCL):
In this service, the container is filled and contains only your goods. There is no need of sharing the container with others. It is a safer and more useful way when you have the number of items to transport that can fill the containers fully. This will keep your items secured without the fear of being misplaced.
In conclusion, air and ocean freights both represent great options for shipping internationally. It is up to you and the type of goods you are transporting to select the best type of service that can transport the shipment on time.
