Well, it depends on the nature of your job and the impact that that action would have on the company. For instance, if you work in a hospital as a sole heart surgeon, missing work to go to the airport means heart patients will not be treated that day. Because of that, some patients may even die! So, in that case, going to the airport wouldn’t be a valid reason for missing work and vice versa.
Again, it depends on the nature of your job. If it’s so critical that a day without your input would be catastrophic to everyone, then you shouldn’t miss work to be with your patents for a day before they leave, and vice versa.
